New agriculture director sworn in | News, Sports, Jobs

Rogerene “Kali” Arce was officially sworn in as director of the Maui County Department of Agriculture on Tuesday.

A Molokai resident and Hawaiian homesteader with more than three decades of experience in Hawaii’s agriculture industry, Arce took on her new position in July when she was appointed by Mayor Michael Victorino. She was confirmed by the Maui County Council last month.

“Under Kali Arce’s leadership, we are making progress toward re-establishing agriculture as a key segment of our economy,” Victorino said in a news release Tuesday. “With support from our new Department of Agriculture, farmers are helping to provide our residents with fresh produce and higher-paying jobs, apart from the hospitality industry.”

The Department of Agriculture office is located at 2154 Kaohu St. in Wailuku. To contact the department, call (808) 270-8276 or email [email protected]
