Marisa Tomei lends her voice to the upcoming novel by Elena Ferrante, The adult life of lies.
The Oscar-winning actress makes her debut in the audiobook world with the narration of the novel set, which will be released on September 1, was announced on Monday. Tomei describes the recording of Ferrante’s audio book as “sometimes very emotional”.
“As a loyal fan of Elena Ferrante My brilliant friend and Neapolitan novels, I was honored and thrilled that I was asked to tell the audiobook The adult life of lies“She said.” The recording was very emotional at times – both the director and I cried as we relived the stressful, heartbreaking, exuberant moments of our own childhood, feelings so specifically captured in Ferrante’s otherworldly writing. ”
The adult life of lies (Random House Audio) revolves around the character Giovanna during her childhood and adulthood in Naples, “in search of her reflection in two related cities that fear and loathe”. The novel tells of Giovanna how she “shuttles back and forth between the two in search of the truth, but neither city seems to offer answers or to escape”.
“Ferrante sheds light on the intricacies and subtle moments of growing up that suddenly make you who you are before you even know,” says Tomei. “To be in Giovanna’s skin, to live such raw youthful feelings while facing her own autonomy and agency, sexism and classism, was a wild, raw confrontation with life in its fullness.”
The anticipation of Ferrante’s new novel follows the success of the Neapolitan novels by the authors, one of whom My brilliant friend is the first. HBO and Italian broadcaster Rai have renewed the serial adaptation of My brilliant friend for a third season. The adult life of lies has already been confirmed to be adapted into a Netflix series.
