Gasoline, diesel prices on Tuesday: Fuel prices continue their regular streak for the 24th consecutive day on Tuesday, June 13. Petrol and diesel prices have remained stable since the central government announced a cut in petrol excise duty of Rs 8 per liter and Rs 6 per litre. on diesel earlier in May.
On Tuesday, petrol consumers in Delhi will pay Rs 96.72 per liter against Rs 105.41 per liter previously; while diesel consumers in the national capital will pay Rs 89.62 per liter against Rs 96.67 per liter previously. The review of petrol and diesel prices is a regular process conducted by public sector CMOs like Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL). Fuel price revisions made by MOCs are influenced by several variables, including international crude oil prices and exchange rates. Gasoline and diesel prices vary from state to state due to local factors such as state taxes, VAT (value added tax), and transportation costs, among others.
Following the Center’s decision to relax excise duties on fuel prices, several state governments also reduced local taxes. The Kerala government has announced a tax cut on petrol and diesel prices of Rs 2.41 and Rs 1.36 per liter respectively. The Odisha government has proposed relaxation of petrol and diesel taxes of Rs 2.23 and Rs 1.36 per liter respectively; the Rajasthan government has reduced VAT on petrol by Rs 2.48 per liter and diesel by Rs 1.16 per litre.
