CHENNAI: BJP district secretary arrested for trying to claim insurance money by burning his own car The incident happened in Tamil Nadu. BJP Tiruvallur West District Secretary Sathish Kumar’s car was set on fire on the night of April 14. He then complained to the police that someone had set fire to his vehicle.
The car was parked in front of a house at Madhuravoyal in Chennai. Seeing the fire, his neighbors and Sathish’s relatives rushed to the scene and informed the police. Police widened their investigation on suspicion that a Molotov cocktail had been thrown. The incident came to light when CCTV visuals were reviewed.

A man in a white shirt was seen riding his bicycle towards the car and looking out of the car windows. After some time, another man in a dark suit approached the car and sprayed something on the car. The car caught fire within minutes.
Checking the visuals, police suspected that the person who set the car on fire was similar to Sathish Kumar. He later confessed to the crime during his interrogation.
Satheesh told police that his wife had been forcing him to buy gold for some time and decided to set the car on fire as he did not have enough money to pay for it. His wife also forced him to sell the car. He then planned to burn the car and claim the insurance money. He decided to buy gold for his wife with this amount. However, CCTV foiled his entire plan. He was arrested by the police and then released.
