Florida A&M University Agriculture is one of the university’s top courses. The applied program is a threefold threat learning academy that embraces the principles of economics, operations and management in agriculture.

The bachelor’s degree program integrates discipline and management and teaches economics and finance at the same time. With agriculture making up the bulk of the program, the administrators found this to be an advantage implement other strengths. It was originally known as “Agi-Con,” but to give the program a more interesting feel, it was called Agribusiness, says Michael Thomas, a professor in the College of Agriculture and Food Sciences.

“People aren’t as interested in business as they are in business, so we have more business than a normal Agi-Con program.”

As one of the unique programs at FAMU that offers a versatile bachelor’s degree, Daniel Solis has listed environmental economics and action economics as two of the degree’s accreditations. The post graduate benefit comes with a range of job opportunities such as political analyst, international business, banking, lending, and even owning a farm or ranch. The program is taught and directed by four professionals, all with PhDs in marketing and economics. Because agriculture is the second largest industry in Florida and FAMU is a land grant institution, Solis believes FAMU has a mission for its students

“Our mission at Florida A&M is to work with industry and with farmers, so it’s an important industry that Florida A&M is a part of,” said Solis.

Alumna Daniel White, who studied Food Science, remembered her time well spent at Foster-Tanner.

“Applying for the agri-business program is the best decision I’ve ever made. As well as being part of the essential life of food, I was able to include biotechnology, physics, and business, ”said White. “It gave me a huge arsenal of tools and at the same time made me more marketable.”

“Some students graduate later. because some of the best students are studying law, ”said Thomas.
